Although the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado are comparable vehicles, your own design preferences will ultimately determine which one you choose. These full-size trucks come with a variety of options for the cab size, engine type, bed length, towing capacity, and interior trim. The available engine options include a 5.3-liter V-8, a 6.2-liter V-8, a turbocharged four-cylinder, and a powerful Duramax diesel with a 13,300-pound towing capability. The Sierra 1500 may be purchased as a crew cab, double cab, or single cab, and its bed lengths vary from 5.8 to 8.2 feet. Four-wheel drive is available for all body styles.
At a lower price point than the Ram 1500, the GMC Denali and Denali Ultimate grades offer a touch of luxury. Despite the Ram’s several 10Best wins, the Sierra’s smoother ride and more luxurious cabin allow it to haul 450 pounds more than the Ram.
#Engine Specs
The Sierra has four engine options, two transmission options, and either four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. The basic engine is a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed automated transmission. A 5.3-liter V-8 engine with 355 horsepower and a 6.2-liter engine with 420 horsepower are the two V-8 engines. A ten-speed automatic gearbox is connected to a total of three engines, including two six-cylinder diesels with 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. The Sierra 1500 also comes with adjustable dampers and 22-inch wheels. The 6.2-liter V-8 Denali Ultimate version reached 60 mph in 5.4 seconds during performance testing. Fuel economy is influenced by the vehicle’s size and equipment. With up to 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the interstate, the optional diesel engine is the most fuel-efficient.
The rugged AT4 version comes with additional off-road features and a 2.0-inch suspension lift. The Silverado ZR2 and AT4X share features including off-road tires placed on black 18-inch rims, extra skid plates, electronically locking front and rear differentials, and advanced spool-valve dampers. The AT4X AEV package comes with additional off-road gear, such as steel rock sliders, 18-inch AEV wheels, and a steel front bumper with a winch.
The Sierra 1500 can tow 13,300 pounds and transport up to 2530 pounds when properly equipped. Most Sierra 1500 cars have a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system (the base model has a 7.0-inch screen). The larger screen has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to integrated Google software for voice assistance, mapping, and app access. With the exception of some minor adjustments, such as new 22-inch wheels, the 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 is mostly identical to the 2024 model. No major updates are expected very soon for this generation, which was published in 2019 and updated in 2022.
